Bill Verplank: Opening Keynote
This lecture tells us how to diffuse thinking, how to create sketches, and how to achieve design goals step by step. In all object making, the art, design and craft are very important. Firstly, as a designer, they should do something which is connecting people and the world between them in the world. Secondly, they should know how do you feel, how do you see, how do you hear and how do you taste. And then, according people’s feeling to think what things do they need. Finally, people’s thinking is very important. Designers need to know people’s thoughts to design something more suitable for them. Bill Verplank talk these things very clear with craft and talking. He is a fresh ME PhD from MIT he worked eight years at Xerox. For six years, he worked with Bill Moggridge at IDTwo and IDEO doing “interaction design”. From IDEO, he moved to Interval Research for 8 years of innovating design methods (observation, body-storming, scenarios, metaphors) and researching active force-feedback (“haptics”). Then, he told that how to develop the map. Designer can make some simple and clear plans. And they need detraction traveling.
